WEEE Compliance Scheme

The WEEE regulations became UK law on January 2nd 2007. The regulations are a piece of legislation that aims to reduce the amount of electrical equipment which ends up in landfill; by ensuring it is collected, treated and recycled. It will make producers of such equipment responsible for the recovery and disposal of their products at the end of their life.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. WEEE encompasses most business equipment that requires electricity to make it function; and for the domestic consumer everything from electronic games, calculators, toasters and kettles to ‘fridges, washing machines, audio systems, televisions and of course computers. Currently it does not include consumable items or spare parts.
